Biography:
Gríma Wormtongue, a significant character in J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, served as a chief counselor to King Théoden of Rohan. His influence over the aging monarch was profoundly negative, weakening both the King's will and the realm of Rohan.
Gríma's true allegiance lay with Saruman the White, a corrupted wizard of great power. He secretly poisoned Théoden with both physical and mental manipulations, aiming to destabilize Rohan and make it vulnerable to Saruman's forces. He withheld news, whispered doubts, and generally acted as Saruman's agent within the court.
His machinations were eventually exposed by Gandalf the Grey, who healed Théoden and restored his strength. Cast out of Rohan, Gríma fled to Saruman. He remained in the wizard's service, ultimately playing a role in Saruman's demise at the hands of the hobbits in the Shire after the War of the Ring.
Wormtongue's eventual fate was to kill Saruman and in turn be shot and killed himself by hobbit archers protecting the Shire.
